Behind the Scenes: Being a Fixer & Local Producer for UK TV Productions in Cyprus

Bringing a TV production to life in a foreign country comes with challenges—tight schedules, complex logistics, and the need for seamless coordination. That’s where a fixer or local producer steps in, acting as the bridge between international production teams and the local landscape. Our role? To make everything run smoothly, anticipate problems before they arise, and ensure the crew can focus on capturing their story without worrying about the details.

From securing permits and scouting locations to arranging transport, accommodation, and on-the-ground support, being a fixer is about making the impossible possible. It’s fast-paced, ever-changing, and requires a deep understanding of both production needs and local industry dynamics. But above all, it’s about problem-solving—whether that means finding last-minute equipment, coordinating with authorities, or handling unexpected challenges on set.

Supporting a BBC Space Documentary in Cyprus

One of our most exciting recent projects was assisting a UK-based production team filming a BBC documentary about space exploration. The production focused on an exclusive interview with a Russian astronaut living in Cyprus, who shared his firsthand experience of space travel and the intense space race of the 1980s.

Managing Local Production & Logistics

While the UK team conducted the interview, we were responsible for ensuring that everything on the ground ran smoothly. Our support included securing the ideal filming location, handling necessary permits, arranging transportation, and providing local crew assistance. We also made sure the team had access to the right equipment and resources to match the BBC’s production standards.

Navigating Local Requirements & Problem-Solving

Producing a documentary in a foreign country always comes with unique challenges, from ensuring compliance with local filming regulations to adapting to last-minute changes. We facilitated all necessary local approvals, coordinated logistics, and remained on standby to address any unexpected issues. Our role was to take the stress off the UK crew so they could focus entirely on their creative and editorial work.

Bringing International Productions to Life in Cyprus

This project was a perfect example of how strong local production support can elevate an international shoot. With our deep understanding of the local industry, proactive approach, and commitment to problem-solving, we ensure that overseas crews have everything they need to produce world-class content in Cyprus.

A Rare Glimpse into Space History

As a bonus to this incredible experience, we had the rare opportunity to handle original tapes containing footage and audio from the astronaut’s mission—including training sessions, the actual spacewalk, and the landing of the expedition. Holding these tapes in our hands was a humbling moment, a tangible connection to a pivotal chapter in space history.

For a production team, moments like these are what make our work so special. Beyond the logistics, planning, and problem-solving, we get to witness and be a part of stories that shape our understanding of the world—and, in this case, beyond it.

Being entrusted with such invaluable material reminded us of the responsibility that comes with our role in production. Ensuring that these historic recordings were safely handled, properly digitized, and seamlessly integrated into the documentary was a task we approached with the utmost care.

It’s experiences like these that make every project unique, and we look forward to many more opportunities to bring extraordinary stories to life.
