Capturing the Thrill: Behind the Scenes of Our L’Étape Cyprus Tour de France Coverage

Covering L’Étape Cyprus by Tour de France was an intense and exhilarating challenge—one that demanded precision, teamwork, and expert coordination. As one of the most prestigious cycling events in the world, L’Étape brings together elite and amateur cyclists to experience the thrill of the Tour de France. Our mission? To capture every breathtaking moment with the highest level of production quality while ensuring seamless execution on the ground.

Planning for Perfection: The Pre-Event Strategy

A project of this scale required meticulous planning and an in-depth understanding of the course. In the weeks leading up to the event, we conducted multiple reconnaissance (recce) missions to assess the route, identify key shooting locations, and strategize our movement throughout the race. Every stop location was mapped out in advance to ensure we could capture dynamic, high-impact visuals without disrupting the event.

One of the most critical aspects of our preparation was safety and logistics. With a race moving at high speeds through unpredictable terrain, our production team had to be fully synchronized with event organizers. This meant coordinating road access, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations, and preparing for any last-minute adjustments.

The Crew & Equipment: A High-Speed Production Setup

To deliver comprehensive, multi-angle coverage, we assembled a specialized production team equipped with state-of-the-art gear and a deep understanding of high-intensity sports cinematography.

  • Professional motorcycle crew – Each photographer, videographer, and FPV drone operator was paired with an experienced motorcyclist to ensure fluid movement throughout the race. These professionals were not only responsible for navigating the terrain but also for keeping our operators in the perfect position to capture the action.

  • Two spare motorcyclists – As a contingency, we had two additional motorcyclists on standby, ready to step in if any technical issues arose with the primary fleet. This backup system ensured that coverage remained uninterrupted.

  • Five photographers on motorcycles – With expert riders maneuvering through the course, our photographers were able to capture the intensity of the race from within the action, securing dynamic close-ups of cyclists in motion.

  • Two videographers on bikes – Positioned within the peloton, these videographers provided immersive footage, offering a rider’s perspective as the race unfolded.

  • One FPV drone operator on a bike – Mounted on a moving vehicle, delivering fast, high-energy aerial shots, following the cyclists with incredible speed and precision.

  • One Inspire drone team in a support car – Capturing sweeping, cinematic aerial views of the event, showcasing both the scale of the race and the breathtaking landscapes of Cyprus.

Every team member played a critical role in ensuring that the race was covered from every angle—whether it was an extreme close-up of a cyclist pushing through exhaustion or a panoramic shot of the winding roads cutting through the island’s mountains and coastline.

Real-Time Execution: The Importance of Coordination

With multiple production units spread across the racecourse, communication was key. We implemented a real-time coordination system that kept every crew member connected, allowing for split-second decisions and adjustments as the race unfolded.

The unpredictability of live events meant we had to adapt on the fly—adjusting locations, responding to changing race dynamics, and ensuring our operators were always in the right place at the right time. Our team’s ability to anticipate movements and execute with precision made all the difference in capturing the most compelling and high-energyfootage.

Delivering a Cinematic Experience

The final result was an electrifying visual narrative that encapsulated the energy, endurance, and excitement of L’Étape Cyprus. Through a combination of dynamic action shots, immersive FPV sequences, and sweeping aerial cinematography, we created a production that didn’t just document the race—it immersed the audience in the experience.

This event showcased what we do best: high-impact, professional sports coverage executed with technical excellence and creative storytelling.

A Heartfelt Thank You to the Team

A production of this scale would not have been possible without the incredible dedication and skill of our entire team. A massive thank you to our expert motorcycling crew, whose precision and control ensured the photographers, videographers, and drone operators had every opportunity to capture the action at its peak. Your experience and professionalism were instrumental in making this production a success.

To our photographers, videographers, and drone operators, who pushed their limits to deliver stunning visuals—your commitment to excellence was truly outstanding.

We also extend our gratitude to the event organizers, race officials, and support crews who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make L’Étape Cyprus a seamless and unforgettable experience.
